About US

Stockholm Discovery was founded by Marco Giertz in 2007 as part of a training programme on entrepreneurship – the Business Lab Incubator – at the Stockholm School of Economics. Marco discovered that there was a growing demand for personalized exclusive tours from cruise ship companies and other tour operators. This is how a new business concept - Stockholm Discovery – was born.

Since the start of Stockholm Discovery, our ambition has been to be a provider of exclusive and personal experiences and informative visits. Thanks to hard and persistent work, the broad competence of our guides and co-workers, and a passionate interest in innovations and social development, Stockholm Discovery has been given top marks year after year by our guests on TripAdvisor.

Our journey

2004 – Marco Giertz becomes a qualified Stockholm tourist guide and offers guided tours in the whole of the Stockholm region.

2006 – Regular assignments as a guide at the Swedish Parliament.

2007 – Stockholm Guide and Cruise Services AB (SGCS) is formed.

2014 – His range of customized services is further developed with specialized assignments for corporate groups through exclusive cooperation with Kista Science City.

2018 – The company broadens its scope of activities, expands and changes its name to Stockholm Discovery.

Today – As our journey continues, we hope that we can be part of yours! We are aiming to be Sweden’s principal provider and arranger of exclusive private and professional visits.

Guides

Johanna Malmivaara

Johanna started working as a tour guide at the Vasa Museum during her teenage years. Johanna has a broad and varied background with three different academic degrees. In her early years, she studied East Asian Studies at Stockholm University. During this time, she was awarded several scholarships to study in Japan. Studies in art science and art education followed. After more than thirty years as a guide at the Swedish Parliament, she graduated as a nurse.

Liv Giertz

Liv has lived, studied and worked abroad for seven years, which has given her multicultural insights when meeting people from different countries. She has been a qualified Stockholm tourist guide for more than 40 years and is one of the few guides who has worked all the year round and been involved in training programmes for new guides.

Lingling Qi

Lingling grew up in China and has lived in Sweden for the past 30 years. She has extensive experience as a guide and her services are frequently requested by large international companies such as Ericson and Scania. Lingling has also worked as an interpreter for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs during state visits from China. She has worked for many of the largest travel companies in the Nordic countries.

Marco Giertz

Marco Giertz was born and has lived most of his life in Stockholm. He has extensive and thorough experience from many different kinds of visits. As a qualified Stockholm tourist guide and with a degree in business and international economics from the Stockholm School of Economics, Marco has extensive knowledge of such subjects as history, economics and politics.

Marco is a much-appreciated guide with a unique ability to capture people’s interest and make everyone feel that they are being well taken care of.

Hans Lantz

Hans has worked for Stockholm Discovery since 2018. Prior to this, he worked with the sale of products and services in the retail trade and in the finance sector. Hans is a qualified Stockholm tourist guide with Swedish and English as his main languages. He has a particular interest in sport and music and is happy spending time in his own music studio. Together with Hans you will enjoy an entertaining and informative time in Stockholm!

Anna Håkansson

Anna has a six-year university education in languages, history and pedagogics, but it is probably all the years she has spent abroad, in countries where she has lived and studied, that has provided her with profound knowledge of how we people live and function together. Today, Anna works as a qualified Stockholm guide and a tour guide all over Scandinavia. She is particularly interested in art and civics and is especially fond of the specific history of Stockholm.
